Anthurium Regale - Houseplant Homeschool

Anthurium Regale

Anthurium regale is a spectacular statement plant that will make a wonderful centre piece in any collection.  The leaf blades can reach a whopping 2m in length given time and the correct conditions.  With thick leathery leaves that are divided by bright veins set agenised a dark velvety green colour.

The two leaves on this plant are 34 and 36cm long.  Neither leaf is perfect and this is reflected in the price but it is really well rooted and leaf number three is just a matter of time.

Pot size:  11 cm

Description

Aim to keep your soil damp not wet or soggy. Your plant will arrive in a very well draining potting mix so watering once or twice a week  should be fine during the growing season. I would drop this down to once a week in winter.

Anthurium regale is not one for bright direct light, bright indirect light is ideal.  Avoid direct sunlight unless it is very early morning or late afternoon. This Anthurium is  found on the forest floor so aim to reproduce this kind of lighting if you can. I tend to keep mine on a lower shelf in the grow room where the lighting is quite diffused.

This is a tropical plant so it will look its best given plenty of warmth and humidity. I have found the ideal growing temperature to be 20 – 23c° during the day and a few degrees lower at night.  Humidity is this plant’s friend: the more you can provide, the happier it will be. Ideally you want to aim for about 70%+.  You will likely find this a difficult plant to maintain without the aid of a humidifier, but if you don’t have a humidifier then either group your plants together or place pot on a tray of pebbles that are always wet as this will help to create a micro climate around the plant.

I use a balanced liquid fertilizer once a month at 50% strength.
