Houseplant Homeschool - About

Hi,  my name is Mark and welcome to Houseplant Homeschool.

I have been a keen houseplant owner for many years, in more recent times this passion has erred towards collecting some of the more rare and unusual plants from the Neotropic regions of the world.  This website was put together at the outset of the Covid restrictions originally as a blog to document my growing passion (ahem… obsession) with houseplants, in particular Aroids and some of the smaller Orchids.  A learning outlet for me while trying to home-school the kids hence the name.

In the early days I was able to add to my collection by using eBay, Facebook groups and visiting specialist nurseries.  However, as my aspirations grew to collect more unusual specimens, I was forced to extend my search beyond the shores of Europe into Asia and South America.

I have built up a small network of suppliers from around the world, who I know and trust to supply me with the most amazing plants that are sourced in the most sustainable way possible. Like many hobbyists, I have been frustrated at the condition some very expensive plants I have purchased were supplied in, either through poor packaging or general health. I thought I would use this  resource to help provide a source of beautiful, unusual plants for people to purchase that are most importantly in the condition that I would like to receive them in myself.
